Keeping Your Luxury Kitchen Organized

The best way to enjoy your spacious Alta Harvest Station kitchen is to keep it neat and organized. Clutter can detract from the look of your finishes and affect the usability of your kitchen by covering up counters and reducing your functional cooking space. These tips will help you keep your kitchen organized so you can fully enjoy your apartment’s luxurious features.

Decluttered Countertops
The first step in keeping your kitchen organized is decluttering your countertops. Countertops are often a collection point for mail, papers, keys, and other miscellaneous items. They are also a convenient place to keep small kitchen appliances such as coffee makers, blenders, and mixers. However, storing too many items on your kitchen counters can make the space feel smaller. Only set out the one or two appliances you use most often, such as a coffee maker, toaster, or blender. Keep all other appliances in your cabinets and bring them out only when you need them. You can quickly reduce mail-related clutter by adding a basket or wall-mounted mail organizer. Use a bulletin or magnetic board to keep important notes and papers accessible without taking up counter space—and don’t forget to utilize the magnetic surface of your fridge. Magnetized clips are a great way to store multiple sheets of paper such as tickets, packets of papers, and coupons.

An Organized Pantry
A well-organized pantry will ensure you know exactly which food items you have on hand so you don’t buy duplicates. First, delineate different shelves for different types of foods: breakfast foods, dinner foods, condiments, baking ingredients, etc. A great solution for storing spices and condiments is to keep them on a lazy Susan, which can be easily turned to find items quickly and easily. Risers are an excellent way to store canned items so you can see each label as soon as you open the pantry door. Keep loose items, such as drink mixes or tea bags, in small plastic containers to prevent them from spreading out and taking over their designated shelf. Place items with the last expiration date at the back of your pantry and those expiring sooner at the front so they will be used first.

A Neat and Tidy Fridge
Storing food properly in your refrigerator will prevent items from becoming lost or spoiled. Furthermore, certain areas of your fridge are naturally colder or warmer, and foods that require specific temperatures should be placed in the corresponding location. The top shelf of your fridge is the warmest; it’s best for storing drinks, yogurt, and leftovers from previous meals. Middle and lower shelves should hold items like eggs, cheese, deli meats, and milk. The bottom shelves, which are the coldest, are where larger cuts of meat, poultry, and fish should be stored. These items must be kept colder to prevent bacterial growth—storing them on the bottom shelf will also prevent juices from accidentally dripping onto other foods. Fruits and vegetables should be kept in corresponding produce drawers, which help to regulate humidity levels and keep these items from wilting, rotting, or ripening too fast.
