Molly Brown House
Museum
The Molly Brown House Museum is located in what was once the
Denver home of Margaret Brown, a turn-of-the-century philanthropist and
activist. Brown survived the 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic, earning her the
nickname the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown. The home was turned into a boarding
house during the Great Depression, but was sold after Brown’s death and
eventually fell into ruin until 1970, when the citizen group Historic Denver, Inc. purchased
and restored the house. Today, the house is one of the most visited historic
sites in the entire state of Colorado. The Molly Brown House Museum features a
historic journey through the life of Margaret Brown, aiming to inspire visitors
to find their own courage and take responsibility for encouraging positive
social changes.
The Children’s Museum
of Denver
Located in the Central Platte Valley, The Children’s Museum
of Denver features educational and inspirational exhibits for children from
birth through age eight. Throughout the museum, your child will explore
exhibits designed to promote hands-on learning, sensory awareness, motor
development, language development, cognitive development, and social-emotional
growth. The Museum’s Center for the Young Child focuses exclusively on newborns
through four year-olds, teaching very young children about the tasks of daily
life while promoting linguistic development and problem-solving abilities.
Other exhibits include The Assembly Plant, where children build unique
creations from donated recycled goods, and Fire Station No. 1, which features a
real fire truck donated by the Denver Fire Department. The Children’s Museum of
Denver also hosts daily educational events and collaborative special events
with other local museums and organizations, such as the Butterfly Pavilion and
Denver Botanic Gardens. Target Tuesday Nights offer families the chance to play
free from 4-8pm on the first Tuesday of every month.
Downtown Aquarium
Denver’s Downtown Aquarium sits next to the South Platte
River. This 107,000-square foot aquarium brings a taste of both freshwater and
marine life to a landlocked state. As you make your way through the exhibits,
you’ll follow the courses of the United States’ Colorado River and Indonesia’s Kampar
River as they flow toward the sea. Some of the Downtown Aquarium’s exhibits
include Under the Sea, The Rainforest, Sunken Temple, North America, and
Shipwreck. In addition to its aquatic exhibits, the Downtown Aquarium is also
home to Sumatran tigers and a live mermaid show. The Downtown Aquarium also
features a variety of educational programs that include SCUBA and snorkeling
adventures, a behind the scenes tour, and overnight adventures for families and
scouting groups.
