Mountain View, California, boasts year-round mild
temperatures, long sunny days, and a pedestrian-friendly downtown area that’s
perfect for enjoying the Pacific breeze. When you make this tech-savvy town
your home, you can explore numerous local activities as you enjoy California living
every day of the year.
Summer Outdoor Movie
Night
Co-sponsored by the Youth Advisory Committee and the City of
Mountain View Recreation Division, the Summer Outdoor Movie Night Series
features a new outdoor movie showing weekly on warm summer nights. On Fridays
in July and August, you can enjoy a family-friendly movie at one of Mountain
View’s majestic public park spaces. Grab your picnic blanket or lawn chair and
relax in comfort while you enjoy this free experience with complementary
lemonade and popcorn.
El Camino Hospital
Farmers’ Market
If you’re craving fresh, locally-grown California produce,
stop on by the El Camino Hospital Farmers’ Market weekly on Fridays from
10am-2pm at the El Camino Hospital campus. Sponsored by the West Coast Farmers’
Market Association, each stall is manned by a local farmer, food processor, or
artist offering fresh produce or handmade craft items you won’t find anywhere
else. The market’s goal is to feature local staples that include eggs, cheese, fish,
nuts, and corn to encourage residents to eat locally and create nutritious
meals for a healthier lifestyle.
Environmental
Docent-led Walks
Did you know that Mountain View holds an extensive history
of maritime activity and a diverse ecosystem unique to the area? This year, the
Shoreline Regional Wildlife Area is pleased to sponsor a number of special
docent-led walks that highlight Mountain View’s 750-acre wildlife preserve and
recreation area. Each walk departs from the historic Rengstorff
House and winds through this spacious and beautiful preserve. During your
walk, you’ll learn more about Mountain View’s history and resources in addition
to hearing details about the animals, birds, and fish that call this area their
home.
Shoreline
Lake Aquatic Center and Café
Wine Seminar Series
In 2014, Shoreline Lake Aquatic Center and Café will be
continuing its successful Wine Seminar Series. Each seminar will cover a
different wine-making or tasting topic and showcase a different set of wines
for tasting. During the course of each one-and-a-half-hour event, you’ll gain a
basic understanding of the topic and how it pertains to the wines you’ve
sampled without the need for intensive study or overwhelming vocabulary. Some
of 2014’s Wine Seminar Series topics include Wine and Romance (appropriately
timed just before Valentine’s Day), the Basics of Serving Wine, and US Wine
Basics.
Silicon Valley Open
Studios
Once each year, Silicon Valley Open Studios features
hundreds of local artists showing off their craft as they open their studios to
the public. During this special event, you’ll have the opportunity to watch
amazing artists at work, ask questions about the art creation process, and
purchase artwork directly from the creator. This free, non-juried event is open
to the public and often attracts many first-time and emerging local artists. If
you love finding new and unique pieces of art, mark your calendar for this
year’s Silicon Valley Open Studios during the first three weekends in May.
