Hike, Bike, & Walk San Diego This Spring!

San Diego offers beautiful weather year-round, making it the perfect place to enjoy outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, jogging, and biking. Bird Rock Bike Path
The Bird Rock Bike Path runs between Nautilus and Turquoise streets in nearby La Jolla, offering stunning views of the shoreline as you make your way along this short ride. This two-mile easy biking trail is perfect for beginners or those simply looking to enjoy a leisurely bike ride in the California sun. It’s not uncommon for bikers or runners to backtrack one or more times to create a longer trail to suit their needs.

Lake Hodges Trails
San Dieguito River Park and the Lake Hodges area offer a wide variety of hiking, walking, and biking trails ranging in difficulty and length. You can choose a short trek of one mile or try your hand at the longer round-trip loops, which range up to 20 miles in total distance covered. Whether you’re craving an easy walk through the wilderness or a more challenging workout, you’ll find it at this continually-growing park. Keep your eye on the evolving trails—the ultimate goal of the San Dieguito River Park is to create Coast to Crest Trail system linking Del Mar to Anza Borrego with over 55 miles of public-use trails. There are currently 14 trails open for use, including the easy Riverpath Del Mar and the strenuous Clevenger Canyon/San Pasqual North hike that climbs to 1879 feet at its highest point.

Palomar Mountain Observatory Trail
At the end of the four-mile, medium-difficulty Palomar Mountain Observatory Trail, you’ll find the Palomar Observatory itself. This world-class astronomical research facility is home to a number of telescopes and is open to the public daily. The hike to the observatory will take you through the mountains to the east of San Diego as you gain a total of 900 feet, offering stunning views throughout your hike.

Bayshore Bikeway
If you’re an experienced bicyclist, the Bayshore Bikeway is for you. This difficult 24-mile ride takes you around the perimeter of San Diego on a palm-lined trail that offers views of the city and its Bay. From your start at the Coronado Ferry Landing, you’ll ride underneath the Coronado Bridge, through Silver Strand State Beach, and over the Sweetwater River. You’ll complete this ride with a quick trip back on the Coronado ferry, which will take you back to the Ferry Landing Marketplace.

Inside Track Around Mission Bay
Bring your friends and the entire family for the easy 11.3-mile Inside Track trail around Mission Bay. This trail offers multiple access points and ample parking so you can hop on wherever you’d like. As you walk through the Mission Bay area, you’ll take in the sights and sounds of the shore and the ocean beyond. This trail is a great place for families to enjoy time outdoors; the track is pedestrian, skateboard, bike, and stroller-friendly.
