Fall Festivals and More in San Diego

Fall in San Diego is a great time to get out, enjoy the weather, and discover culture, cuisine, and more at one of the area’s many fall festivals and parades. As the hot summer swimming season comes to a close, San Diego and its neighboring cities come alive with a variety of fall events and activities. Keep reading to find out what’s going on near your San Diego apartment this fall!

Gaslamp Quarter Fall Back Festival
On November 9, 2014, the San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter holds its annual Fall Back Festival, a street faire that offers a taste of 19th century fun for the whole family. Activities include pie-eating contests, historical recreations and demonstrations of crafts and trades common in 19th century San Diego, and carnival rides. The Fall Back Festival also features a wide variety of cultural offerings celebrating the diversity of the San Diego area, including Native American dance performances, sand painting, and storytelling, Chinese calligraphy, and drumming jam sessions. Attendance is free, but there may be a small fee for some activities or craft sessions.

San Diego Beer Week
If you love beer, you’re in luck—November 7-16 is San Diego Beer Week 2014. This year’s Beer Week is the sixth such event to be held, building off the success of previous festivals to bring you ten days of events, beer tastings, and more to celebrate the “brew culture” of San Diego. Beer Week is designed to promote the city’s more than 90 local and craft breweries, which are known worldwide for their award-winning brews. The festivities begin with the two-day Guild Fest at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, where you can taste samples from more than 50 of San Diego County’s independent breweries. Additional Beer Week events include multiple “meet the brewer” opportunities, special beer nights at your favorite local restaurants, and Beer Week’s amazing closing event, the Beer Garden on the Arroyo Terrace of the Lodge at Torrey Pines.

San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival
For those who enjoy trying new dishes—and the wines that pair with them—the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival returns this year from November 16-23. The 12th year of this amazing event features presentations by celebrity chefs, critics, and other culinary personalities as you sample tasty treats and beverages from nearly 300 breweries, wineries, and local restaurants. Attending chefs and personalities include Nate Appleman, Gale Gand, Elaine Ardizzone, Alex Carballo, Jon Sloan, The Hearty Boys, and Maria Desiderata Montana. Events include silent and live auctions, the annual Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition, blind tasting panels, and the festival’s famous “Party After Dark” event, featuring celebrity mixologist Jeff Josenhans.
